OD and ID Cylinderical Grinders

Grinders are machines used to grind materials through the process of abrasion. There are various kinds of grinders divided on the basis of their purpose. Cylindrical grinder is a type of grinding machine used on the materials that are symmetrical about their axis of rotation.

There are certain types of cylindrical grinders such as OD grinder, ID grinder and centerless grinder. OD stands for outer diameter, therefore, this grinder grinds the diameter of the material or the work material, and it can be used on either the ends or one end. One way is to hold the material between the centers. The second way is to chuck and rotate the material against a fast grinding spinning wheel. In this way, the work piece is grinded. However, immense care must be taken while doing this activity as the outer diameter comes very close to refined size. Carelessness might lead to over grinding of the tool. An ID grinder, as the name suggests, takes care of the inside diameter of the work piece. It is a longer process than outer diameter grinding as the internal diameter grinding stone is small in size and the operator is required to make smaller cuts from the tool.
